Welcome to the official web of the 42nd Annual Meeting of the European Malignant Hyperthermia Group.

The Academic Centre for Malignant Hyperthermia of Masaryk University is most honoured to host, for the first time in history, the European Malignant Hyperthermia Group (EMHG) Annual Meeting in Brno, Czechia. The 42nd Annual Meeting of EMHG will be held on May 15-17, 2024.

Cooperation with EMHG is very precious for us. Every year, this conference is attended by many experts in the field of malignant hyperthermia (MH), anaesthesiologists, intensivists, geneticists, and scientists, not only from Europe but also from all over the world. As MH is a rare disease, regular meetings are key to sharing clinical experience, scientific progress, staying up-to-date and the development of international cooperation. So, there is no doubt, why one with interest in MH should attend the EMHG Annual Meeting. But why Brno? Brno is located conveniently in the middle of Europe, in the region of the vineyards of South Moravia. It is a small city with a great history but a modern appearance. Brno is the home of Gregor Johann Mendel, the father of genetics. Brno is also home to progress, with five different Universities, the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) and the Simulation Centre of Masaryk University (SIMU), the most up-to-date and largest medical simulation centre in Europe. And we would like to show some of it this year - there certainly is something to look forward to! You are all invited and most welcome!

Short Brno MH history:
MH Diagnostics have been available in Brno for more than 20 years. In 2002 Dr Dagmar Štěpánková started with a systematic collection of MH risk patients and families, the same year the first molecular-genetic testing was performed at the University Hospital Brno. Simultaneously, Dr Ivana Schröderová established the IVCT laboratory at the University Hospital at St. Anna in Brno with help from Swiss Basel, namely Prof Karel Škarvan and Prof Albert Urwyler. The first IVCT test was performed in 2003. In 2016 Dr Martina Klincová joined the team. In 2021 so far cooperation was formalized, and the Academic Centre for Malignant Hyperthermia of Masaryk University (ACMH MU) was established. The head of ACMH MU is Prof Petr Štourač. Within ACMH MU four different departments in two faculty hospitals in Brno now cooperate, all involved in MH diagnostics and providing IVCT, genetic testing, risk patient database and patient and family counselling. The ACMH MU IVCT laboratory was in 2022 accredited as an official EMHG laboratory. Since 2023 we have been helping to develop more systematic MH diagnostics also in Slovakia in cooperation with Dr Slávka Hanuljaková from Bratislava.
